Our current approach to managing complicated sternotomy wounds due to wire cerclage failure - experience with splint osteosynthesis

The authors present their experience with the use of splint osteosynthesis in the treatment of complicated sternotomy wounds with bone dehiscence due to wire cerclage failure. Two systems for the reconstruction and stable internal fixation of the sternum used by our team and the technique of implantation are mentioned briefly. Discussion outlines the advantages and disadvantages of this relatively new method of stabilization of the sternum the use of which has been widespread in cardiac surgery practice.
