Robotized techniques - a new platform for interventional cardiology
- Kardiologické oddělení, Nemocnice Na Homolce, Praha, Česká republika
New directions in the development in catheter-based techniques used in interventional cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology are closely related to the dynamic development of novel imaging techniques and, also, various concepts of remote-navigation systems designed for heart catheterization so as to make catheter-based interventions more accurate and as safe as possible for the patient. Last but not least, these techniques should usher in standardization and reduce inter-individual variability in catheter-based interventions. Our paper introduces revolutionary robotized techniques of heart catheterization based on the principle of electromagnetic navigation as well as one based on electromechanical navigation, both of which are currently being used by increasing numbers of heart centers throughout the world. Hence, they represent a fully novel and indeed revolutionary platform for the use of invasive techniques in cardiology.
