Infectious endocarditis of the mitral valve following injury by a pet

Infectious endocarditis (IE) is a serious intracardiac infection, deadly in 100% of cases in the preantibiotic era. The introduction of penicillin and streptomycin into the therapeutic protocols was followed by a steep decrease in IE-related mortality to levels below 20%. Today, despite the advances in the diagnosis and treatment, IE continues to be a disease with an uncertain prognosis and total mortality in the range of 20-30%. In her case report, the author presents an unusual cause of IE, highlighting the need for multiple clinical examinations of at-risk individuals in a septic state.
