Post-infarction ventricular septal defect is a relatively uncommon condition, generally considered serious because of its high morbidity and mortality rates. The authors describe percutaneous closure of a post-infarction ventricular septal defect in an elderly female patient who had had surgical revascularization because of a subacute myocardial infarction. A significant muscular ventricular septal defect developing postoperatively resulted in hemodynamic instability of the patient.
Percutaneous closure of the defect was obtained using an Amplatz occluder. In our case report, the possibility of managing this serious infarction-related complication is discussed.
