Goal and methods:The clinical efficacy of unstable angina treatment with enoxaparin has been well established, but its indication for optimal anticoagulant treatment in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains uncertain. The objectives of our observational study were to investigate changes in coagulation tests (APTT, thrombin time [TT], inhibition of F Xa and F IIa and prothrombin fragments F 1 + 2 level) and bleeding complications (according to TIMI criteria) after single i.v. bolus administration of 0.75 mg/kg of enoxaparin to a group of 30 patients during urgent or elective PCI. Additional treatment consisted of only aspirin (100-300...

Cor Vasa 2006, 48(6):227-232 | DOI: 10.33678/cor.2006.068

Aims:The aim of our study was a retrospective comparison of total and fluoroscopy times, and the number of radiofrequency (RF) energy applications in 3 groups of patients undergoing catheter ablation for intermittent atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods:Out of a total of 372 ablation procedures in 282 patients, the first 161 ablation procedures in 161 patients (31 F) aged 54.7 ± 9.7 years were included into the analysis. These patients underwent catheter ablation based on full pulmonary vein isolation using electroanatomically navigated circumferential lesions, possibly complemented by left atrial linear lesions in many...

Cellular therapy of coronary heart disease: a review of concepts, limitations, prospects. Part Two. Stem cells, prospects of cullular therapy

Martin Pěnička, Petr Widimský, Tomasz Siminiak, Otto Lang, Karol Čurila, Kateřina Hesová

Cor Vasa 2006, 48(6):234-241 | DOI: 10.33678/cor.2006.069

This review examines the current concepts of cellular therapy of ischemic heart disease and the potential of myocardial regeneration. Part One provided background information and discussed techniques of cell myocardial implantation and skeletal myoblasts. Part Two examines the issue of stem cells and prospects of cellular therapy.

Successful use of inhaled NO in the treatment of acute right ventricular failure

Under physiological conditions, the right ventricle does not have to overcome any resistance and any sudden rise in the pulmonary arterial bed may result in its failure with subsequent circulatory collapse. Our case report describes effective management of a shock state in the presence of right ventricular failure using inhaled NO, which selectively dilates the pulmonary bed arteries without an effect on the systemic circulation. In addition, the case report briefly addresses the differential diagnosis of right ventricular failure and other potential therapeutic uses of inhaled NO.

Cor Vasa 2006, 48(6):247-250 | DOI: 10.33678/cor.2006.071

Pulmonary artery spiral CT angiography is becoming number one technique in the diagnostic algorithm of pulmonary embolism. According to the relevant literature, the sensitivity and specificity of the technique are close to 100% depending on the type of diagnostic device used and embolus localization. The paper addresses the causes of false negative CT findings in diagnosing pulmonary embolism and includes the case report of a female patient in whom the interval from the onset of complaints to CT examination, combined with the presence of a serious heart condition, resulted in a false negative CT finding while scintigraphy documented extensive right...
