Aim:To provide an overview of the status of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy in patients after myocardial infarction and/or myocardial revascularization in the Czech Republic in 2005 and to compare it with that in 1999-2000 and in 1995, and thus to evaluate the progress in drug treatment over the last 5 and 10 years. Method:Using medical report-based questionnaires, the authors sought to monitor the status of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy in 614 myocardial infarction survivors and 243 patients after revascularization for coronary heart disease without a myocardial infarction. Results:The proportion of patients...

Introduction:Symptomatic neonatal coarctation of the aorta (nCOA) is a critical heart disease requiring urgent surgery. Recoarctation of the aorta is a residual narrowing at anastomosis site with a non-invasively measured systolic gradient between upper and lower limbs higher than 20 mm Hg. When recoarctation of the aorta is suspected based on clinical assessment (hypertension, attenuated pulses and lower pressure at lower limbs), the diagnosis is confirmed by echocar-diography, alternatively complemented with angiography, CT and magnetic resonance imaging in older children. Summary of patients and results:We analyzed data...

Clinical manifestation of lithium intoxication following contrast medium injection during selective coronary arteriography
Radek Krejčí, František Toušek
Cor Vasa 2006, 48(4):150-152 | DOI: 10.33678/cor.2006.048
Our case report describes a clinical manifestation of chronic lithium intoxication in a female patient undergoing elective coronary arteriography after myocardial infarction. It shows that even a relatively safe examination, which coronaryarteriography is, can lead to a life-threatening state under certain adverse conditions.

Robot-assisted aorto-bifemoral bypass - the da Vinci 1200 system
Petr Štádler, Pavel Matouš, Petr Vitásek
Cor Vasa 2006, 48(4):155-158
The term robot-assisted surgery refers to surgery performed using a computer-controlled robot system. This technique does not require direct contact between the surgeon and the patient. The robot system appreciably improves the precision of the surgical procedure, eliminates shaking of hands, its 3D feature provides for flawless image and, like all minimally invasive techniques, it reduces the extent of operative injury. The authors report their initial experience in the Czech Republic and in Eastern Europe with the da Vinci robotic system employed to perform aorto-bifemoral reconstruction. The department of vascular surgery at Prague s Na Homolce...
