Catheter ablation of ventricular tachyarrhythmias (VTs) has undergone remarkable development during the last decade. In the majority of patients with idiopathic VTs, catheter ablation represents curative therapy without the necessity of any additional pharmacotherapy. In contrast, in patients with severe systolic dysfunction or rapid VTs, implantation of a cardioverter-defibrillator remains the treatment of choice due to the high risk of sudden cardiac death. Catheter ablation is then indicated in those with recurrent arrhythmias and device discharges. In case of arrhythmic storm, the ablation may represent life-saving therapy.
