Heart retransplantation for undiagnosed severe acute cellular rejection

Given the imbalance between the offer of and demand for donor hearts, heart retransplantation is a controversial "procedure"; on the other hand, retransplantation is often the only therapeutic option in the presence of heart graft failure. We report the case of a patient in whom even repeat endomyocardial biopsies failed to identify severe acute cellular rejection as the cause of heart graft failure.
